Ariel Continues Thought Leadership

Ariel to Present at Usability Professionals Association Conference in Scottsdale, AZ

Cincinnati, Ohio - Ariel Vice President, Matt Hummel, and Senior Consultant, Gary Elsbernd, have been selected to speak at the national Usability Professionals Association (UPA) conference. UPA is a professional association dedicated to disseminating knowledge and know-how to make software and technology easier to use and more productive for businesses and individuals.

Hummel and Elsbernd will present “That Old Black Magic; Identifying and Dealing with Superstitious Users.” The topic addresses “user superstitions”, a phenomenon where users have developed inaccurate ideas of how business systems work, resulting in inefficient and sometimes counterproductive habits. Specific points on how to identify this behavior as well as how to prevent or reduce it will be discussed.

“As technology influences more and more of our lives, systems have to be usable by everyone in an organization, not just the technically savvy,” notes Elsbernd. "We are excited to speak at the Usability Professionals Association Conference because of its focus on the human side of technology, a perspective Ariel has been advocating for almost a decade.”

This is the second time in recent months Hummel and Elsbernd have teamed to provide thought leadership to the software industry. In October 2002, they presented a topic on designing work and knowledge portals at ForUse, a conference dedicated to enabling business software users to be more productive and efficient. Individually, the pair has also spoken at national events such as Knowledge Management World, Online Learning, KnowledgeNets, and E-Learning.

The UPA conference will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, June 23rd-27th. This year’s theme is Ubiquitous Usability - usability encountered everywhere. Program highlights include sessions on e-commerce best practices, scenario-driven Web design, customer success metrics, collecting and using customer stories, and designers as change agents.
